Frequently Asked Questions
1. Are you accepting new patients?
Yes, we love welcoming new patients to the clinic. To book an appointment you can either call our office at 306-931-0000 or request an appointment via our website.
2. What can I expect at my first appointment?
At your first new patient appointment you will spend time with a dental hygienist and a dentist. The dental hygienist will review your medical history and past dental care, discuss any concerns you have about your oral health and spend time scaling your teeth (cleaning your teeth and removing plaque and debris). You will also spend time with one of our dentists who will complete a comprehensive check-up on your teeth and discuss your oral health routine with you and any treatment that may be required.
3. Do you accept my insurance?
We accept many forms of dental benefits from employer, government and school insurance programs. We can direct bill to your provider on your behalf and receive payment directly from the company. Please check out the insurance section of our website for more information.
4. Will my insurance benefits cover my appointment?
Your insurance benefits are a contract between you and the company. In many cases, due to privacy guidelines, the insurance company will not share information with us about your policy. We strongly encourage you to contact your insurance company to get information about what is covered before your appointment. Please check out the insurance section of our website for more information, including a document with recommended questions to ask your insurance provider.
5. What are your fees?
We follow the Saskatchewan Dental Fee Guide provided by the College of Dental Surgeons
6. Do you accept the Canada Dental Benefit?
The Canada Dental Benefit is designed to provide some financial support to help Canadian families access dental care. Individual patients or families need to apply for this benefit via the Canada Revenue Agency website (telephone options are available as well). At this time, as a dental office we are not able to apply for this benefit on you behalf or receive payment directly. You can find more information about this government program here.
7. Why do I need x-rays and how often do they need to be taken?
Dental radiographs give us a view of what is happening inside the teeth and under the gum tissues all the way to the roots of the tooth. These x-rays allow us to examine for cavities, periodontal disease, bone loss, infections, tooth formation and growth as well as normal tooth eruption patterns.
There are a few different types of x-rays that we take at Blairmore Dental Centre that allow us different views of the tooth and surrounding structures. Bitewing x-rays are taken approximately once a year while panoramic x-rays are updated once every five years.
Every patient is unique so Dr. Hamilton and Dr. Wawryk will establish the frequency of x-rays needed for your specific needs. Please do not hesitate to talk to your dentist if you have any questions about x-rays.
8. Do you treat children? When should I bring my child in for their first visit?
The Canadian Dental Association recommends that children have their first appointment by the age of one, or six months after their first tooth appears, whichever comes first. At your child’s first appointment the dental team will look at his or her mouth, review any concerns you have, and discuss healthy oral care habits.
We love seeing children in the office and many of our providers have additional training in caring for children. Dr. Hamilton, Dr. Wawryk and our dental therapist Bev can all perform some treatment on children. We also work closely with Saskatoon dentists who specialize in children’s dentistry and can refer your child to one of them if more advanced care is needed.
9. Do you offer Invisalign?
Yes! Both Dr. Hamilton and Dr. Wawryk offer Invisalign for simple orthodontic cases. We also work closely with Orthodontists in Saskatoon and will decide upon examination whether you can do Invisalign at Blairmore Dental Centre or if a referral to an orthodontist is needed. You can learn more about Invisalign here.
